The Gospel this week shows Jesus’ compassion for the people who followed him. Jesus saw them as sheep without a shepherd, meaning they were harassed and helpless. He felt sorry for them and wanted to help them find true guidance and rest for their souls. Jesus also saw them as a harvest that needed more workers to gather them into God’s kingdom. He asked his disciples to pray for more people to join his mission of preaching and healing. The Gospel reading reveals Jesus’ love and care for the lost and those in need. Jesus simply wants to share his message of salvation with them. We are challenged by the Gospel to follow the example of Jesus and join him in his work of reaching out to others with the gospel.
