In the fifth of lent, we are challenged by the gospel to recognize that it is always seems easier to point out someone else’s sin rather than recognizing our own need for conversion. In creating a sense of otherness, we allow ourselves to float above others in judgement. Rather than focusing what separates us from others, Jesus offers us an alternative way of forgiveness and reconciliation that brings us closer to our brothers and sisters and closer to God.
Next Sunday (Palm Sunday), We will commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, being greeted by the peoples with the waving of palms on Palm Sunday. Before the start of all next weekend’s Palm Sunday mass celebrations, we will have a solemn formal procession starting in Guyot Hall to the entrance of the main Church.
As we continue our Holy Week celebration, please join us for a wonderful afternoon of music with the Easter Cantata which will be held on next Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The Cantata will be performed by our own Music Ministry Choir and directed by our Director of Liturgy and Music, Pamella Pitman.
On Good Friday April 15th , there will be a special live Stations of the Cross at 5:30 pm. Our own young people from the current 2022 confirmation class will be performing the Stations of the Cross. Please use this time to contemplate what Jesus accomplished on the cross for us, and to pray for and support the young people in our parish.
Let’s take a look ahead to the Holy Week schedule. Our Holy Week schedule is as follows: Holy Thursday 7:00 pm; Good Friday Service 3:00 pm; Easter Vigil, Saturday Evening 8:30 pm. Easter Sunday 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 Noon. (Guyot Hall will be set up for live and livestream services) With all those masses and services we will be stretched thin on ministers to help cover the many needs of the Holy Week Liturgy. In particular I am asking our Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion to please sign up to assist at one (or two) masses if at all possible. Same goes for our Sacristans, Acolytes, Altar Servers, Ushers and Greeters. We will have a lot of visitors with us this Easter season and we need your presence, please.
For 2022, Cardinal DiNardo has assessed our parish DSF goal at $84,000. DSF supports more than 60 ministries and programs that serve the faithful of the Archdiocese and us here at St. Hyacinth. As an incentive to give to DSF, there will be a 50% rebate on the total amount given by first time DSF donors. For example, if a first time donor (someone who have never given to DSF before) makes a gift to our parish of $50, the parish will receive a rebate of $25. Envelopes are in the narthex or you can go online and give at : https://www.archgh.org/ways-to-give/diocesan-services-fund-dsf/donate-to-dsf/ Thank you in your generosity in supporting DSF 2022.
Next, at all the weekend masses, Members of the ACTS community will be giving away books to the community (one per family please) as a gift to the community this Lenten season. However, we are requesting a small donation be made with contribution going toward our youth ministry efforts here at St. Hyacinth. I want to thank the ACTS community for supporting the Church.
Finally, 2022 marks 10 years of my being pastor here at St. Hyacinth. It has been a wonderful challenge serving the people of St Hyacinth. Over the last 10 years, I have done my best to make sure that everyone who steps into the doors of St. Hyacinth know God loves them and that they are welcome into His house. I know along the way that there have been challenges and that some have just simply walked away because of me. However, I have not let the negativity effect me in my mission of be a priest and pastor. As we move forward, I want everyone to know that as pastor, I will continue to seek the best for St Hyacinth and promote the love of Christ, until I am call to share the love of Christ with another community.
