We cannot accomplish anything in this life without the help of God. In this Sunday’s Gospel we have an invitation of Jesus to lay our burdens down upon him. The burden is easy and light because Jesus shares the burden of carrying it with us who are yoked to him. We do not shoulder the yoke or carry the burden of life alone. All we need to do is to come to Jesus to grow in our knowledge of him and through him grow in our relationship with God the Father.
This weekend we will have the annual Archdiocese mission appeal. Rev. Thomas Wiese from the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament will lead a mission appeal for his congregation. Each year our archdiocese participates in the Missionary Cooperative plan which invites a missionary to preach at the parish for mission appeals. This plan provides the people of our archdiocese and our church the opportunity to increase their awareness of the vital mission work of the Church. For 2017, the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, based out of Cleveland, Ohio, has been assigned to our parish. Please welcome Fr. Thomas Wiese to STHY.

VBS 2017 will be starting this week and the decorating is currently underway. VBS registration is still ongoing. This year’s theme will be “Maker Fun Factory”. VBS kids will experience God’s Word in surprising and unforgettable ways. This VBS event is a wonderful time for our young people to explore their relationship with Christ and the Church. Last year VBS had over 140 kids participating along with over 50 teen and adult volunteers helping our young people grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church. If you have time to volunteer this summer, the Vacation Bible School would be a great place for you to help. You can register for VBS on line at sthyacinth.org, or in the Faith Formation office.
There will be several projects that STHY will be working on during the months of July and August. First, we will be working on creating a nursery in Room 1 in the Religious Education building. There have been a number of parishioners requesting that we open a nursery to accommodate the youngest of our parish. The nursery should be up and running by the end of August.
Next, work on repainting and refurbishing a number of the classrooms in the Religious Education building also will start during this time. There have been an increase in the number of activities in our facilities over the years and these classrooms need some attention. This project should be completed by the end of August as well. Next, we are planning to make a number of repairs to the Guyot Hall kitchen along with addressing lighting issues in the walkway area in front of Guyot Hall.
Finally, we will be addressing some of the wooden boards of the walkway and porte-cochère areas to the main Church. Some of the boards are rotten and will have to be replaced along with fixing the lighting in these areas.
Thanks to all those who have made their pledges for the capital campaign. Thank you for your generosity and sacrifice. I am happy to say we have reached a major milestone at the $1 Million pledge level; however we still have a ways to go. We entrust this campaign to the intercession of Our Blessed Mother and our patron, St Hyacinth. As your pastor, I invite you all to discern how best you are able to support our capital campaign to build Family, Faith and Future… our Sanctuary…. Our Home.
Finally, our parish has been asked to participate in the Summer Parish formation program for seminarians. Please welcome Blake Novosad, a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston who will be with us for the months of July and August. Currently, Mr. Novosad is a seminarian studying in Rome and, God willing, will be eligible for ordination in June 2019. Please welcome Blake to our parish.
