ost Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Today’s celebration of the Body and Blood of Christ originated in the Diocese of Liege in 1246, under the title of the feast of Corpus Christi. Under the Vatican II reforms, the feast of Corpus Christi was combined with the feast of the Precious Blood (July 1) to become the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of the Christ.
The gift of the Eucharist must be shared. In the sharing of the Body of Christ, we become the Body of Christ. As we are transformed by the Eucharist, we not only become Disciples, but co-workers in the vineyard of Christ. By coming to the table of the Lord, we take the very life of Jesus into our own being.
This weekend STHY will conduct the Archdiocese annual Corpus Christi collection for the support of the men studying for the Priesthood for our Archdiocese. I will encourage everyone to please be generous in supporting our seminarians. Our Archdiocesan seminarians study not only at St. Mary’s seminary here in Houston, but also in seminaries in Dallas and San Antonio Texas, St. Benedict Louisiana, and Rome. This Sunday’s ENTIRE first church collection goes towards the costs associated with the operating of St. Mary’s Seminary as well as the expenses of the education of seminarians, the continuing education of priests and the training of permanent deacons and laity. Thank you for your generosity.
We have accomplished a great work in raising the funds to pay for our new Church organ. Thank you for your generosity. As the summer continues, we have several projects on the agenda for the parish facilities. First, Work will start shortly to repair the 33 year old Guyot Hall building at a cost of $24,500. Secondly, several of the appliances will be replaced in Guyot Hall and should be delivered shortly and installed. Finally, we will be working to power wash the facilities. Thank you for your generosity toward the Parish Improvement Fund.
Summer is almost here and that means Vacation Bible School. Registration has begun for this yearly event which will be held July 9 - 13 in Guyot Hall. This year’s theme will be “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus” This VBS event is a wonderful time for our young people to explore their relationship with Christ and the Church. Last year VBS had over 150 kids participating along with over 50 teen and adult volunteers helping our young people grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church. Go to the STHY Facebook page to review VBS 2017. If you have time to volunteer this summer, the Vacation Bible School would be a great place for you to help. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish.
Sorry that it took an extended time to calculate the totals, but I am happy to report that our recent 2018 STHY Spring Festival was our biggest ever, netting a record $59,583* for the parish; *(Total does not account for expenses). Thank you one and all who made it possible. Leading the way was our ticket sales which brought in a whopping $24,711. Every booth, ride and game did well over the Sunday, but beyond that I think that everyone who attended had a great time.
I want to thank everyone who has been involved in bringing this festival to our parish. I want to give a special thank you to our Spring Festival Chairman Raul Turner. Raul has worked very hard this year to make our Spring Festival a joyous event. We need everyone to continue to pray about our faith journey to build Faith, Family and Future… our Sanctuary…. Our Home.
