The feeding of the multitudes is one of the few stories in scripture that are told in all four of the gospels. This shows the early impact on the early disciples and continues to impact us today. Jesus not only fulfills the need for food, he gives a deeper level to humanity for a hunger for faith. Furthermore, even after a great miracle that was performed, Jesus retreats with his disciples for prayer and contemplation. It is important for us to retreat from the world every now and then as well, to get back into a quiet place to contemplate on God.
Next, I want to encourage you to watch a new program on FORMED for your Summer study called Presence: The Mystery of the Eucharist which explores the truth and beauty of Christ's Real Presence in the Eucharist, from its origins in Sacred Scripture, to its profound role in the life of the Church and its people. Although the Eucharist appears to be simple bread and wine, it is actually the “source and summit” of the Christian life.
The 2018 Annual Archdiocesan Youth Conference is this weekend at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston under the theme “Chosen”. All who participate will be blessed with powerful witness and messages from major presenters including our own Cardinal DiNardo. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish who are a part of this retreat this weekend.
Another event happening this Summer will be the Life Awareness Retreat - Vocations Discernment Weekend be held starting next Friday July 27- 29 at the Christian Renewal Center. Come and join other single men and women of faith, ages 18-45, who are searching and discerning God’s call in their lives. Life Awareness is a weekend retreat of prayer, silent reflection, presentations, group discussions, and sharing on one-on-one encounters and guidance from priests and religious sisters and brothers, as you learn more about priesthood and religious life. This retreat is designed to help young adults to learn and explore the vocations of priesthood and consecrated life, to search deeply for the guidance, and to grow in courage to do the will of God. It will provide the time, environment, and opportunity to clarify one’s calling without any pressure of commitment. I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Lisa Freeman will be our 2019 Parish Spring Festival Chairperson. I want to give a special thanks to Raul Turner who has been our Chairperson for the last five years. Mrs. Freeman has been working behind the scene at our past festivals, and has now agreed to step forward as the new Festival Chairperson. Planning is now underway for the Spring Festival 2019, so please be on the lookout for how you can help with this important effort for the Church. Please congratulate, thank and pray for Mrs. Freeman as she assumes the duties and Spring Festival 2019 Chairperson.
I am grateful to you for what I know is a meaningful and genuine concern for Our Parish. As your pastor, it is tremendously moving to me to hear such a great response from so many of our parish family. Together, great things can be accomplished.
Your capital campaign pledge will continue to enable STHY to minister to the needs of all who come through our doors for the next 50 years and beyond ; and your pledge will allow us to look to the future needs of our Church and community. Just because we are in a slow period of the summer does not mean that we can stop thinking about the future of our parish. We need everyone to continue to pray about our faith journey to build Faith, Family and Future… our Sanctuary…. Our Home.
