This Sunday of the first day of the year, we celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. It is fitting that we embark on a new year reflecting on the blessing in which God has given us through the Blessed mother of the Church. This solemnity of Mary marks the eight day of Christmas and completes the octave of Christmas. During this time, we have contemplated the joy of Jesus’ birth and now we celebrate the life of Jesus’ family.
January 1st has been designated by the Church as a day in which the Church prayers for world peace. It is the peace of Christ that we live in hope and pray for peace in our own hearts as well.
I want to thank our entire ministry team who help bring to St. Hyacinth a wonderful Christmas liturgy. Without the Sacristans, Ushers, Greeters, Altar servers, Readers, Acolytes, Musicians, and Choirs; we could not have a Christmas celebration in the Church. Thank you all and your efforts are appreciated by everyone. Special thanks to Mrs. Pamella Pitman, our Director of Liturgy and Music for leading our beautiful liturgies this Christmas season.
I want to thank all the wonderful people who were responsible for decorating the church, Guyot Hall, and Religious Education building this Christmas season. There is a whole host of people who have given of their time and talent to come and make sure that our Christmas environment would glorify God here at STHY. I want to say a special thanks to Margie Gulledge, Robert White, Christopher Pitman, the Liturgical Environment Team, Floral Ministry team, and volunteers who worked on a wonderful vision of Christmas for our parish. On behalf of us all here at St. Hyacinth, Thank you soo very much. As we enter a new year, let us all think of ways in which we can make life easier for ourselves and the parish. One of our parish goals in 2023 is to increase the number of families supporting St Hyacinth using electronic giving. Currently we have 211 families using online giving. You can register for online giving by just simply going to our parish website https://www.sthyacinth.org/online-giving. Thank you for your generosity and support of STHY.
The Christmas season is not over and there is still the opportunity for you to give is to the parish itself. The 2022 STHY gift list is out and this presents a great opportunity to support our parish in a special way to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. Check out the list in the bulletin or https://www.sthyacinth.org/2022-st-hyacinth-christmas-gift-list and see how you can share the gift of Christmas with STHY.
The parish office will be closed Monday January 2nd in celebration the New Year. On behalf of the staff here at St. Hyacinth, we wish you all a joy filled New Year!
Upon the Death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, Cardinal DiNardo States:
It is with deep sadness and hope in the Resurrection that we mourn the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. From 2005 to 2013, the late Holy Father shepherded the Church with great love. His keen intellect invigorated the New Evangelization by drawing hearts and minds into the mystery of our redemption in Christ, and inspiring countless men and women to spread the Gospel by the example of their lives. Having been present at the Second Vatican Council, Pope Benedict knew first-hand the teaching of the Council and sought to articulate that teaching in his scholarly work as a theologian. He did the same as an official in the Holy See, and later as Supreme Shepherd of the Church. Pope Benedict XVI’s sense of the faith and love for the Sacred Liturgy will continue to shape the Church for years to come. He was a true pastor of souls and son of the Church. I give thanks to Almighty God for the good example and Petrine Ministry of Pope Benedict XVI. May the Lord now welcome this faithful servant into the heavenly liturgy of the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.
