Today, the Church celebrates the birth of John the Baptist, which is considered to be the last great prophet who bridges the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Church calls this “forerunner of Jesus” at the beginning of each day when it prayers the Liturgy of the Hours. Today, we consider the role of family in our own upbringing and that of John and his cousin Jesus. It has been said that the family is the domestic church. It is in the family that Children first learn the faith. May our families continue to be a place of nourishment, love and faith.
Summer is here and that means Vacation Bible School. Registration has begun for this yearly event which will be held July 9th – 13th in Guyot Hall just a few short weeks from now. This year’s theme will be “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus” This VBS event is a wonderful time for our young people to explore their relationship with Christ and the Church. Last year VBS had over 150 kids participating along with over 50 teen and adult volunteers helping our young people grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church. If you have time to volunteer this summer, the Vacation Bible School would be a great place for you to help. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish.
As we move through the summer months , I want to make you all aware of the 2018 Annual Archdiocesan Youth Conference which takes place this year on July 20th - 22nd at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston under the theme “Chosen” The primary focus for A.Y.C. is to rejuvenate the faith life of our youth, to help them get serious about life in Christ and His Church, and to learn the truth of the Gospel. All who participate will be blessed with powerful witness and messages from major presenters including our own Cardinal DiNardo. For A.Y.C. 2018, we will be sending a number of our young people to this event. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish. Another event happening this summer will be the Life Awareness Retreat - Vocations Discernment Weekend be held on Friday July 27- 29 at the Christian Renewal Center. Come and join other single men and women of faith, ages 18-45, who are searching and discerning God’s call in their lives. Life Awareness is a weekend retreat of prayer, silent reflection, presentations, group discussions, and sharing on one-on-one encounters and guidance from priests and religious sisters and brothers, as you learn more about priesthood and religious life. This retreat is designed to help young adults to learn and explore the vocations of priesthood and consecrated life, to search deeply for the guidance, and to grow in courage to do the will of God. It will provide the time, environment, and opportunity to clarify one’s calling without any pressure of commitment. For more information please contact : Denny Matranga 713-462-0136 , [email protected] or Deacon Gary Hilbig [email protected] The cost is free with Donations being accepted.
