This Sunday, we hone the Most Holy Trinity, the community of divine persons who loves and saves us. The mystery of the Trinity calls us to move beyond ourselves and into a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The Trinitarian grace that we receive of grace, love and fellowship allows us to move beyond our own lives to think of the lives of others. When God shares his divine life with us, then he is calling us to spread the good news of the Gospel in order for others to know this life as well.
There has been a phenomenon that has been happening at Mass lately that has been very concerning to a number of parishioners and to me as Pastor as well. There have been a number of people who are showing up late to Mass and are setting themselves during the Mass readings. As pastor, I am asking that if you are late to mass, please wait until the Mass readings are over to be seated. It is very distracting for the readers, congregation and ministry leaders, when someone is seating themselves during the Mass readings. I want to reiterate, that we all understand that there are many reasons for being late to Mass and I am happy that you are coming to Church; however, If you find yourselves being late for Mass, please wait to be seated until after the Mass readings for the mass are completed. We will give you all time to be seated immediately after the Mass readings. Thanks for your cooperation.
I am happy to report that our recent 2017 STHY Spring Festival was our biggest ever, netting a record $58,512* for the parish; *(Total does not account for expenses). Thank you one and all who made it possible. I want to give a sincere thank you to our Raul Turner, his core committee and team of festival volunteers for all of their hard work and efforts. What a blessing they all are to our parish. And remember, they are parishioners just like you and me. They give of their time and talent to make this possible, so be sure and thank them when you see them at church. We’re already planning and looking forward to Spring Festival 2018!
Next weekend June 10th and 11th there will be the Archdiocese annual Corpus Christi collection for the support of the men studying for the Priesthood for our Archdiocese. I will encourage everyone to please be generous in supporting our seminarians. Our Archdiocesan seminarians study not only at St. Mary’s seminary here in Houston, but also in seminaries in Dallas and San Antonio Texas, St. Benedict Louisiana, and Rome. This Sunday’s ENTIRE church collection this day goes towards the costs associated with the operating of St. Mary’s Seminary as well as the expenses of the education of seminarians, the continuing education of priests and the training of permanent deacons and laity. Thank you for your generosity.
On Thursday June 22nd at 7:00 pm we will have our Mass of Confirmation with Bishop George Sheltz. St. Hyacinth has 40 young people being confirmed this year. We congratulate all of our teens, their sponsors and families and pray that the Holy Spirit will always guide them.
Summer is almost here and that means Vacation Bible School. Registration has begun for this yearly event which will be held July 10th -14th in Guyot Hall. This year’s theme will be “Maker Fun Factory”. Our kids will experience God’s Word in surprising and unforgettable ways. This VBS event is a wonderful time for our young people to explore their relationship with Christ and the Church. Last year VBS had over 140 kids participating along with over 50 teen and adult volunteers helping our young people grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church. If you have time to volunteer this summer, the Vacation Bible School would be a great place for you to help. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish.
Finally, I want to thank everyone for your thoughtful response to our request for a pledge to our parish capital campaign. I am grateful to you for what I know is a meaningful and genuine concern for Our Parish. Thank you for answering the call to support our Church; and we need everyone to continue to pray about our faith journey to build Faith, Family and Future…. Our Sanctuary …. Our Home.
