In the Gospel this Sunday, we are witnesses to two of Jesus’ disciples walking to Emmaus when they encountered a stranger who turned out to be Jesus, however they did not recognize Him at first. After Jesus spoke to them and broke bread with them, their eyes were opened, and they realized that it was Him. The question this week deals with do we recognize Jesus in our own daily journey. He is with us, however, even in our own trials and turbulations, we miss seeing him through our own circumstances. This is the time when we truly must keep our eyes open to Jesus to allow Him to lead us through the issues that we face in life.
During the eight Sundays of Easter, the first readings are selected from the Acts of the Apostles and deals with the Easter Faith of the early Christian community. These selections from the Acts of the Apostles record how those first Christians receive the spirit of Jesus and carried the mission of Christ forward.
Next, thank you for your support and patience as we move back towards recovery. We are working diligently to get our systems back on track at the Church. Hopefully, we will have our systems up and running in the next few weeks. We are currently relocating the parish offices to Guyot Hall. Updated information can be found on our website, Flock notes and Facebook. Please keep us in your prayers.
Finally, in the next few weeks, the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston will conclude its celebration of its 175th anniversary. On May 4, 1847, the Apostolic See in Rome established the new Diocese of Galveston "when the number of souls" grew in the Texas frontier. The first bishop in Texas, Bishop Jean Marie Odin, along with the Ursuline Sisters, made it their mission to form the area Catholics in their faith and to educate Catholic children. Together they built upon the foundation laid by Franciscan missionaries ministering in Texas since the 17th century. Please join in prayer for our leader, Cardinal Dinardo, and all the faithful as we move forward in sharing the love of God to the people of the Archdiocese.
