In this Sunday’s Gospel reading we hear of the story of Cleopas and his companion encountering Christ on the road to Emmaus. The two disciples invite the man to dine with them, no realizing that he was Jesus. At the blessing and breaking of the bread, the disciples’ eyes were opened, and they recognized that the one sitting with them at table was the risen Savior. Jesus continues to open our minds and hearts to his wisdom and love each day. Revelation is not just for one day, and we have revelation of God every day only if we open our minds and hearts to Jesus in the sacraments. During the eight Sundays of Easter the first readings are selected from the Acts of the Apostles and deals with the Easter Faith of the early Christian community. Theses selections from the Acts of the Apostles record how those first Christians received the spirit of Jesus and carried the mission of Christ forward. These writings help us move forward with our mission to show love and mercy to the world in light of the risen Christ.
For 2024, Cardinal DiNardo has assessed our parish DSF goal at $81,200. DSF supports more than 60 ministries and programs that serve the faithful of the Archdiocese and us here at St. Hyacinth. As an incentive to give to DSF, there will be a 50% rebate on the total amount given by first time DSF donors. For example, if a first time donor (someone who have never given to DSF before) makes a gift to our parish of $50, the parish will receive a rebate of $25. Envelopes are in the narthex or you can go online and give at : https://www.archgh.org/ways-to-give/diocesan-services-fund-dsf/donate-to-dsf/ Thank you in your generosity in supporting DSF 2024.
We are approaching the middle of the spring season and the start of summer soon. Church attendance during the summer months tends to drop off as vacations and weekend sporting events often conflict. On the other hand, the services STHY provide with the parish and for the larger community continue year round, as do their associated expenses. Thus, your consistent financial support of our parish is vital to achieving our stewardship mission. The easiest way to be sure that your gift of treasure reaches us, even when you can’t be here, is through enrollment in our electronic offertory program: E-giving through our parish website at Sthyacinth.org or Faith Direct. Our parish code for Faith Direct is TX526. As always, know that your generosity is truly a gift from God.
Next, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the Stain Glass Restoration project for St. Hyacinth. We have made our goal of $75,000. Thank you for your generosity and support. The next phase of the restoration project is projected to happen this summer . The stain glass windows for the restored Adoration chapel are due to be put in place along the work on the Stain glass windows of the Church are due to start in mid-summer.
