Following his baptism in the Jordan river and time of temptation in the desert, Jesus returns to his hometown of Nazareth to worship in the synagogue. After reading the scroll of Isaiah the people look at Jesus intently as he tells them, “Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” We are called to be formed by this word as well, to encounter the word deeply and invite change in our lives.
The Bible is at the heart of our Catholic Faith, and our relationship with God. STHY will be offering a Bible study called The Bible Timeline, which will take everyone on a 24 week journey through the entire Bible. Classes are being held on Tuesdays with the morning session at 9:00 am - 11:00 am and evening sessions at 6:30 pm- 8:30 pm. Go to Sthaycinth.org for more information on the program.

As we enter 2019, let us all think of ways in which we can make life easier for ourselves and the parish. Recall that our electronic payment system, Faith Direct, is an easy and secure way to see that your offertory contributions to the church are made on a timely basis. It is an easy and wonderful way to contribute to the church. You can register in less than five minutes by logging on to www.faithdirect.net and entering our parish code of TX526. From there a few short steps will have you set up as you wish: weekly, monthly, special collections, etc. You can pay by credit card or bank draft. It’s convenient, fast and secure. Writing checks has become almost obsolete for so many of us, so please add the church to your list of those you contribute to online. It helps us tremendously with less bank fees on our end, too. Thank you for your generosity and support of STHY.
I send out my sincere thanks to all who made a pledge for our Building Faith, Family and Future Capital Campaign. I truly appreciate your generosity and support. Please consider making a pledge in the next coming months of 2019. Envelopes are in the Narthex along with our collection box specifically designed for our Capital campaign or you can do so online through the parish website. Now is the time for giving, and we can all do our part, pledge. Thank you for doing your part to help us reach our goal.

The list of priests credibly accused of sexual misconduct with minors is set to be released by the end of this month. The only acceptable number is “0.” Unfortunately, that is not the case. We have sinners in the Church and some of them are clergy. Evil has a special interest in the clergy because he knows that if he brings one of them down, more damage can be inflicted on the Church. Some have given into his temptations and committed very grave sins and should be held accountable. Regrettably, the manner of dealing with these moral failures was neither always adequate nor appropriate. The Catholic Church in the United States implemented a very vigorous response to this sad and grievous crisis beginning with the Dallas Charter of 2002 and evidenced by the CARA report published two months ago. We must continue to build on what we have achieved and prayerfully move forward.
Finally, as of the writing for the bulletin, the boiler for the Church is not working which means that there there is no heat for the Church, the older part of Parish facilities and Church offices. The new part of the Education building and Guyot Hall are not affected and has heat. We are currently ascertaining the condition of the boiler; however, due to the age of the boiler, it may not be able to be repaired. We will keep everyone informed on the condition.
