In this week’s gospel, we focus on Jesus’ power to heal and cure. Jesus heals Bartimaeus of both his physical blindness and his social exclusion. When Bartimaeus receives his sight, he is able to rejoin and to take part in the daily life of the community. Jesus wants us all to be healed continues to make sure that everyone is embraced by the community in the midst of disability.
We might not be able to heal as Jesus did, however we can work to heal broken structure in our society that does not allow the full participation from people who are disabled in our community. We can work to be advocates for those who are less able in our society to ensure that everyone is embraced by the community.
One of the principal goals of 2024 is to increase the number of people that are contributing to the Church through our electronic giving platform. We have over 1100 registered families here at STHY that maybe giving to our parish in the Sunday collection; however, we don’t have a record of them using their envelopes or electronic giving. You can enroll for online giving through https://www.sthyacinth.org/online-giving .
For 2024, Cardinal DiNardo has assessed our parish DSF goal at $82,100. Go to:https://www.archgh.org/ways-to-give/diocesan-services-fund-dsf/donate-to-dsf/ and give to DSF 2024. Thank you for your generosity. Our parish will receive a 50% rebate on every dollar raised over goal. Please remember that our parish is required to meet our goal, whether paid by us individually or paid from our general funds at the end of the year.
We have released the FY 2023 - 2024 financial statement for the parish. A copy of the statements can be found in the narthex of the Church or online at https://sthyacinth.org/parish-financial-review
Many in our community continue to need food to feed their families. Our St. Hyacinth St. Vincent De Paul Society is asking for your help to feed our neighbors in need by donating to our ministry gift cards in the amount of $25 from any of our local grocery stores: Food Town, Joe V’s, Aldi, Kroger, HEB, or Walmart. Place your donated cards in the collection basket during any weekend Mass. Thank you for your generosity.
Next, I want to address an issue that affects the Sunday Weekend Mass in the Church. I understand that there are many reasons for people and families to be late for Mass. However, over the last few months, people have been walking into Mass and seating themselves while the readings, Psalm response, and the gospel readings are taking place. This action is extremelydistracting for those proclaiming the word and for those already seated. I ask, please; if you are late for Mass, please wait to be seated after the readings and psalm response for the Mass are completed. We will give you enough time to find a seat.
November is right around the corner. The Feast of All Saints is a Holy Day of Obligation, we will celebrate two special Masses on November 1st, Friday at 8:00 am and 7:00 pm.
Finally, there will be a special Luminaria Mass for All Souls Day Saturday November 9th at the 5:00 pm Mass. (Thirty First Sunday of Ordinary Time)
