Every year, all of the parishes in the archdiocese are assigned a missionary ministry for the parish to support. For our 2020 Missionary Cooperative appeal please welcome the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Congregation to our parish for their missionary appeal. Please welcome Fr. Gerry Kelly to our parish this weekend. Today’s second collection is designated for the Maryknoll ministry. Please go support the Maryknoll ministry online at https://membership.faithdirect.net/TX526.
We cannot say we love God and remain indifferent to the plight of those whom God Loves. In this week’s Sunday Gospel, Jesus summarizes all the teaching of the law and the prophets in a single statement: Love God and love neighbor. If we truly say we love God then we will be compelled to ease suffering wherever we find it. When we love God fully then we are fulfilling the law that was set down by Jesus.
As we move into the fall and Advent season, I want to encourage everyone to use their down time to go to FORMED.org. FORMED is a digital online platform that gives STHY parish members unprecedented access to video-based study programs, feature films, audio presentations, and eBooks from the Church’s foremost presenters. With your free access to FORMED, 24/7 on your television, smart phone, laptop, I-pad, or Kindle, you can:
Prepare for Mass each week by watching an insightful five-minute video on the Sunday Readings.
Study the Scriptures at your own pace and time.
Enjoy movies as a family that are both nourishing and entertaining.
Enrich your marriage with the award winning video program Beloved.
Help your children grow in faith and character with engaging children’s materials.
Soo I am asking every family to use their free access to all the amazing content on FORMED. Our parish Password to FORMED.org is 77GVZ3.
I need to address the approximately 1044 registered families here at STHY that we have no record of your giving to the Church. We do acknowledge that many are giving to the Church through the weekend collection; however, STHY needs you start using your envelopes or move toward electronic giving. In this way we can account for all those who are a part of the parish that are truly giving and it is an expense of the church for envelopes to be mailed to registered families. We currently spend close to $10K a year on offertory envelopes and if we could use our electronic giving, this would reduce the expense of mailed offertory envelopes dramatically.
For 2020, Cardinal DiNardo has assessed our parish DSF goal at $84,000. This year, our parish has collected $59,483 towards our goal. We have until the end of the year to collect our goal. DSF supports more than 60 ministries and programs that serve the faithful of the Archdiocese and us here at St. Hyacinth. From Catholic chaplains at the hospitals and the Port of Houston, to religious education training for our teachers (who pass on their faith to our children), to outreach to seniors, to youth ministry, to soup kitchens, to Catholic Charities ministry to the poor and disenfranchised, and to training for seminarians, deacons and priests, the DSF provides funding for people and program that serve us all. There is only two months left until the end of the year to cover the $24,404 deficit in DSF. It’s truly our baptism calling for generosity as the Cardinal tells us “Bring Your Greatest Gifts To The Lord” Thank you for your continued generosity towards DSF.
We are living in constantly changing times, but two things that are not changing are our devotion to our parish and it's needs. We know many of our lives have been turned upside down in the last 8 months. The STHY has been too. We need, same as you, to know what's coming in so we can budget what goes out. I'm asking you to give DIFFERENTLY. By going to the website and signing up for RECURRING online giving, you let the parish know we can count on your support weekly.
