How many times have we heard that we should ‘practice what we preach’? Jesus tells us through the scripture that we are all called to be examples of people that take the faith seriously. Our words and deeds must reveal Jesus Christ to our world and community. In the Gospel this Sunday, Jesus challenges the scribes to know the commandments of God in a new way. He tells them that they practice what they preach Jesus tells the crowd and the disciples to focus on loving God then allowing that love to flow from that love.
I want to thank everyone for the phenomenal Trunk or Treat 2024 this past Saturday. It was a wonderful event for our young people in the parish. Special thanks to Mrs. Pamela Johnson, Director of Faith Formation, , the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters and the Men’s and Women’s ACTS team along with and all the adult and young people volunteers from our Youth Ministry team who made Trunk or Treat Special, thank you all.
One of the principal goals of 2024 is to increase the number of people that are contributing to the Church through our electronic giving platform. We have over 1100 registered families here at STHY that maybe giving to our parish in the Sunday collection; however, we don’t have a record of them using their envelopes or electronic giving. You can enroll for online giving through https://www.sthyacinth.org/online-giving .
For 2024, Cardinal DiNardo has assessed our parish DSF goal at $82,100. Go to:https://www.archgh.org/ways-to-give/diocesan-services-fund-dsf/donate-to-dsf/ and give to DSF 2024. Thank you for your generosity. Our parish will receive a 50% rebate on every dollar raised over goal. Please remember that our parish is required to meet our goal, whether paid by us individually or paid from our general funds at the end of the year.
Many in our community continue to need food to feed their families. Our St. Hyacinth St. Vincent De Paul Society is asking for your help to feed our neighbors in need by donating to our ministry gift cards in the amount of $25 from any of our local grocery stores: Food Town, Joe V’s, Aldi, Kroger, HEB, or Walmart. Place your donated cards in the collection basket during any weekend Mass. Thank you for your generosity.
For the Month of November, The Book of the Names of the Dead will be in the Baptistery area of the Church for those who want to write the names of deceased loved ones whom we can pray for. In communion with the faithful departed as members of the Church, it is our responsibility and privilege to assist them with our prayers and holy works.
Over the past 12 years, it has been my joy to serve you at St. Hyacinth Cardinal DiNardo is now assigning me to serve as the pastor of St Laurence in Sugarland, which begins on November 25th.
Serving this parish has brought me great joy, and I believe that our parish is in a great place for the next pastor to continue to build upon all that we have accomplished together as a community of faith.
A new pastor of St. Hyacinth will be appointed in the near future. Please keep me in your prayers, and please know of my prayers and gratitude for each of you.
