In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus asks the rich young man to not only help the poor but become poor, to find the treasure of heaven by giving up the treasure of earth. Jesus asks us to put aside what is keeping us from God in order to fully engage with those in need. Whatever we possess that inhibits us from embracing God’s love is a curse, not a blessing. The rich young man in our Gospel today could not embrace Jesus’ call to let go of what is so central to his person. Our lesson is very simple: Do we possess our possessions or do our possessions possess us?

The special second collection will go towards the support of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in their efforts to train some 80,000 seminarians preparing for the priesthood and about 10,000 men and women preparing to serve as religious brothers and sisters.

And remember, you can do in two ways, through your parish envelopes that are mailed to you or electronically through www.faithdirect.net by entering parish code TX 526. It’s fast, easy and, yes, very secure, and a great way to support the work of our parish.
Now that we are getting back into the routine of parish life, lets continue to think about the future of our parish. Your support of our parish capital campaign will continue to enable STHY to minister to the needs of all who come through our doors for the next 50 years and beyond ; and your pledge will allow us to look to the future needs of our Church and community. We need everyone to continue to pray about our faith journey to build Faith, Family and Future… our Sanctuary…. Our Home.
