Eucharistic Adoration is an expression of our love for Jesus, who loves us so much that He never wants to leave us and so stays with us day and night in the Blessed Sacrament.
For He says: “Behold I am with you always,” because “I have loved you with an everlasting love. And constant is my affection for you.” (Matthew 28:20; Jeremiah 31:3).
St. John Paul II, in his first encyclical letter, Redemptor Hominis, says that Eucharistic adoration is the most fundamental duty in the life of the Christian and that liturgical celebration of the Eucharist and private worship of the Eucharist complement each other. He states: “Our communal worship at Mass must go together with our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration in order that our love may be complete.”
Over the years since the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration opened, some Guidelines for Conduct have been written and distributed as a source of information for new adorers and as a reminder for experienced adorers. By following these guidelines, the solemnity of the Chapel will be preserved, and the appearance of the facility maintained.
RESPECT No one should ever touch the Monstrance, the vessel which holds the consecrated Host. In the Adoration Chapel silent prayer is essential. Praying aloud or in a group is disturbing to others.
ATTENDANCE It is imperative that you be there every week – ON TIME – for your scheduled hour of devotion. If for some reason you are unable to attend, please make an effort to find a substitute. If that fails, call your coordinator, who will help you. If you haven’t already done so, record the name of the coordinator for your day and time. There is a list of coordinators included in this web site, as well as a printed list in the back of the log book in the chapel.
If your relief does not show up at the end of your hour, and you are unable to stay an additional hour, please call your coordinator for assistance. If you cannot reach your coordinator, call any of the other coordinators listed. THE CHAPEL MUST NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED.
ATTIRE Dress modestly. We suggest that you dress as you would to attendMass. However, if you are passing the Chapel while jogging or shopping and desire to drop in for a moment of prayer, dress should not be a deterrent. If coming to the Chapel directly from work or gardening, check your shoes for mud or other soiling substances.
