In 1882 Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus based on the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism, and defense of the priesthood.
It is an organization of Catholic men who participate in and sponsor programs at the grassroots level to meet the needs of local parishes and communities. Men of faith. Men of action.
Examples of national Knights of Columbus programs are Pro Life activities, Special Olympics, and educational programs to combat pornography, substance abuse, and drunk driving.
"We are answering Pope Francis’ call to go to the peripheries. We can reach half way around the globe to help those in need and we can reach to our neighbor next door. And we do that every day. That makes us witnesses to the faith." -- national Supreme Knight Carl Anderson.
The local council for St. Hyacinth is Council 10574.
