The Church teaches that the Eucharist demands more than the opening of our hands to take and our mouths to consume; the Eucharist demands that we open our hearts to become what we receive. We are called to become Christ. We are called to become a servant, a reconciler, and a person who will lead others to a greater relationship with God.
In being called to be Christ, we are called to move beyond our desire for instant gratification and quick fixes to discover the word of God creating and building our lives and our world. The ‘Bread from Heave’ that God gives is the food that will not parish, and will sustain us while we are here helping to build the kingdom of God.
August is here and there are several parish wide activities planned in commemoration of our St Hyacinth Feast day and Parish anniversary. First, Casino Night is back. On Saturday August 18th starting at 6:30pm we will have Food, Fun and musical entertainment waiting for everyone with Casino Night. Come and play Texas Hold’em, Black Jack, Craps, Roulette and more. To enjoy casino night you must be age 21 or over.
Next, we will have our St Hyacinth Parish Feast day celebrations with a reception, games and prizes in Guyot Hall after the Sunday noon Mass on August 19th. Let us all make plans to join in the celebration of the life of our parish.
There will be several projects that STHY will be working on during the months August and September. First, work on repainting refurbishing and cleaning a number of the classrooms in the Religious Education building will start during this time. There have been an increase in the number of activities in our facilities over the years and these classrooms need some attention. This project should be completed by the end of August and or the beginning of September as well.
Next, we will continue to address the walkway and porte-cochère areas to the main Church. We have been working over the last few months to repair and place rotting boards in this area. We will continue work on repairing, replacing and patching up areas of the walkway and porte-cochere during the month of August and September.
The repairs to the Guyot Hall and Church roofs have been completed. Thank you for your generosity to our Parish Improvement fund.
I know it is the beginning of August, but it is time to start thinking about the next coming school year and the beginning of Religious Education classes. With more than 600 children in some level of Religious education this year, we need to have a head start in preparing for this fall’s Religious Education classes. (please check the bulletin and parish website for more information). Please use this opportunity for early registration so you won’t get caught scrambling at the last minute this fall. Call or stop by the Faith Formation office during business hours or call if you have questions. And also begin to pray about becoming involved yourself as a teacher or aide. We’ve got plenty of training classes scheduled and we’ll offer you all the help you need, but I would ask that all parents become good stewards about their children’s religious education and get involved as a teacher or aide. It’s a great way to involve the whole family in the life of Christ.
I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Lisa Freeman will be our 2019 Parish Spring Festival Chairperson. I want to give a special thanks to Raul Turner who has been our Chairperson for the last five years. Mrs. Freeman has been working behind the scene at our past festivals, and has now agreed to step forward as the new Festival Chairperson. Planning is currently underway and Mrs. Freeman has announced that festival committee will continue with the two day celebrations which will happen on April 27-28, 2019. Please congratulate, thank and pray for Mrs. Freeman as she assumes the duties and Spring Festival 2019 Chairperson.
Finally, just because we are in a slow period of the summer does not mean that we can stop thinking about the future of our parish. Your support of our parish capital campaign will continue to enable STHY to minister to the needs of all who come through our doors for the next 50 years and beyond ; and your pledge will allow us to look to the future needs of our Church and community. We need everyone to continue to pray about our faith journey to build Faith, Family and Future… our Sanctuary…. Our Home.
