In today’s gospel, Jesus takes a potential act of violence and turns it into a moment of encounter and forgiveness. As we come closer to Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week, we need to recall our own encounter with Jesus as we seek forgiveness and be an instrument of forgiveness. We have to decide if we are going to be people who throw stones and don’t forgive, or people who practice forgiveness.
Due to the presentation of the RCIA rite of the Scrutinizes this Sunday, for the 10:00 am Mass, this Sunday readings and Gospel will be taken from the Cycle A readings. In the Gospel, Mary and Martha’s relationship with Jesus brought them to believe in His power. Jesus comforts us all in our sorrows, and our faith is strengthened by our encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist.
Next Sunday, We will commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, being greeted by the peoples with the waving of palms on Palm Sunday. Before the start of all next weekend’s Palm Sunday mass celebrations, we will have a solemn formal procession starting in Guyot Hall to the entrance of the main Church.
On Good Friday April 19th, there will be a special live Stations of the Cross at 5:30 pm. Our own young people from the current 2019 confirmation class will be performing the Stations of the Cross. Please use this time to contemplate what Jesus accomplished on the cross for us, and to pray for and support the young people in our parish.
Let’s take a look ahead to the Holy Week schedule. Our Holy Week schedule is as follows: Holy Thursday 7:00 pm; Good Friday Service 3:00 pm; Easter Vigil, Saturday Evening 8:30 pm. Easter Sunday 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 Noon.
With all those masses and services we will be stretched thin on ministers to help cover the many needs of the Holy Week Liturgy. In particular I am asking our Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion to please sign up to assist at one (or two) masses if at all possible. Same goes for our Sacristans, Acolytes, Altar Servers, Ushers and Greeters. We will have a lot of visitors with us this Easter season and we need your presence, please.
As we move into the Holy Season of Easter, We will be a witness to the Sacraments of Initiation as we continue mission of Jesus Christ by welcoming our new members to the Church through baptism and the profession of faith. Please pray for the candidates and catechumens and they continue their journey into full communion in the Church.
It’s time to start thinking about our upcoming STHY 2019 Parish Spring Festival, which will take place 3 short weeks from this weekend on April 27 and 28th . This year marks seventh time in over 20 years in which we have has a Spring Festival for our parish. It’s no secret that what makes the bazaar such an awesome event for our parish and community is the great number of people who volunteer their time and talent. Your help is especially needed to staff a shift or two in one of our many booths, rides and games. The help and support of everyone in the parish, both young and old, is most needed. It’s a great way to give back to the life of the community. I highly encourage you to make your commitment to helping our parish at the Spring Festival. Booth chairpersons and volunteers are especially needed. Let’s see if we can get all the spots filled early this year. We’ve got more than enough parishioners that if everyone who comes to the Festival were to volunteer for a shift or two; we could easily take care of all our needs. Join us for a great way to be part of STHY biggest and most fun event of the year.
With our new two day Spring Festival 2019 is just around the corner. If you have not picked up your Spring Festival raffle tickets, they are available from members of our Spring Festival Committee members after Mass or pick them up from our parish office. You may return Spring Festival tickets to an ushers at Mass or return them to the parish office. We look forward to seeing you here!
