In the fifth of lent, we are challenged by the gospel “unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it does, it produces much fruit.” We are called to die to self for God glory to shine in us. In these last days of lent, we are called to pen our hearts to God’s love to transform us even more. God etched a new covenant in our hearts through the waters of baptism and affirmed His love in the Eucharist. Jesus now draws us now into eternal life as we celebrate His resurrection.
Next Sunday (Palm Sunday), We will commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, being greeted by the peoples with the waving of palms on Palm Sunday. Before the start of all next weekend’s Palm Sunday mass celebrations, we will have a solemn formal procession outside the Church to the entrance of the main Church.
On Good Friday March 29th, there will be a special live Stations of the Cross at 5:30 pm. Our own young people from the current 2024 confirmation class will be performing the Stations of the Cross. Please use this time to contemplate what Jesus accomplished on the cross for us, and to pray for and support the young people in our parish.
Let’s take a look ahead to the Holy Week schedule. Our Holy Week schedule is as follows: Holy Thursday 7:00 pm; Good Friday Service 3:00 pm; Easter Vigil, Saturday Evening 8:30 pm. Easter Sunday 8:00 am, 10:00 am. (Guyot Hall will be set up for live and livestream services) With all those masses and services, we will be stretched thin on ministers to help cover the many needs of the Holy Week Liturgy. In particular I am asking our Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion to please sign up to assist at one (or two) masses if at all possible. Same goes for our Sacristans, Acolytes, Altar Servers, Ushers and Greeters. We will have a lot of visitors with us this Easter season and we need your presence, please.
For 2024, Cardinal DiNardo has assessed our parish DSF goal at $81,200. DSF supports more than 64 ministries and programs that serve the faithful of the Archdiocese and us here at St. Hyacinth. As an incentive to give to DSF, there will be a 50% rebate on the total amount given by first time DSF donors. For example, if a first time donor (someone who have never given to DSF before) makes a gift to our parish of $50, the parish will receive a rebate of $25. Envelopes are in the narthex or you can go online and give at : https://www.archgh.org/ways-to-give/diocesan-services-fund-dsf/donate-to-dsf/ Thank you in your generosity in supporting DSF 2024. As we continue our Holy Week celebrations, please join us for a wonderful afternoon of music with the Easter Cantata which will be held on Sunday April 14th at 3:00 pm. The Cantata will be performed by our own Music Ministry Choir, along with an orchestra and directed by our Director of Liturgy and Music, Pamella Pitman. Next, I want to thank everyone for their wonderful generosity to St. Hyacinth. Soo far we have collected $60,100 toward our stain glass restoration project. Thank you for your generosity in our efforts to sustain our beautiful windows. You can find more information about our fundraising efforts on our website Sthaycinth.org. Finally, you can keep up with the progress of the reconstruction of our Religious Education building on our Facebook page and our website. Notice the brick work going up all around the new building.
