In this Sunday’s Gospel we enter into the Sermon on the Mount, which we will be hearing for the next two weeks. In Mathew’s Gospel, Jesus begins teaching his disciples what it means to be a follower of Christs. He calls his disciples and us that we need to be the “Light of the World” and “the Salt of the Earth.” The prophet Isaiah describes the our light should shine for the glory of the lord when we feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, clothe the naked and treat each other with compassion.
DSF 2020 started last week with “DSF Commitment Sunday.” Cardinal DiNardo is sent everyone an appeal letter and pledge card and he wants to encourage each and every one to become involved with DSF 2020. I know that we are in difficult economic times, yet each of us has been blessed in so many ways, and we are called to share those blessings with others. As we continue our mission of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, I want to thank all of you who have responded to our annual Diocesan Service Fund (DSF) drive .
There is a Safe environment program that is offered by the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston. The CMG Safe Haven online training is replacing the VIRTUS training. The training consists training videos that is approximately 60 minutes and will include a criminal background check that must be completed. All Safe Environment trainings will only be available online. All individuals must complete the training and complete a background check prior to the start of employment and/or volunteer service in the Church. Go to: https://GalvestonHouston.CMGConnect.org/or click the Safe Environment banner at St. Hyacinth.org.

It’s time to start thinking about our upcoming STHY 2020 Parish Spring Festival, which will take place on Sunday May 3rd. This year marks eighth time in over 20 years in which we have a Spring Festival for our parish. Your help is especially needed to staff a shift or two in one of our many booths, rides and games. The help and support of everyone in the parish, both young and old, is most needed. It’s a great way to give back to the life of the community. I highly encourage you to make your commitment to helping our parish at the Spring Festival. Booth chairpersons and volunteers are especially needed. Join us for a great way to be part of STHY biggest and most fun event of the year.
If you have not picked up your Spring Festival raffle tickets, they are available from members of our Spring Festival Committee members after Mass or pick them up from our parish office. You may return Spring Festival tickets to an ushers at Mass or return them to the parish office.
