Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
In this Sunday’s Gospel reading we have one of the most well known and most quoted verses of the bible. “God so loved the world that he gave his only son so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but have eternal life.” During Lent, we enter into a time of purification and penance. We are called to live out the mandate that Jesus has set for us. As he came to give us salvation and redemption, we are called to carry forth his love to bring about the kingdom of God here on Earth.
Governor Abbott issued a gubernatorial order earlier this month which allows Texas businesses to reopen and relax the mandate to wear masks effective Wednesday, March 10. Under the guidance of Cardinal DiNardo, the Churches and schools of the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston along with St. Hyacinth will maintain the current COVID-19 protocols that we have in place: Mandatory masks, social distancing, and sanitizing of the hands of those entering the church will continue to be in effect. We will keep you updated on this matter.
My Job as Pastor is to encourage you to enter a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ. For the season of Lent, I want to encourage you to use FORMED.org in which we have provided the password to every parishioner.
There are two studies on FORMED.org for Lent, that I am challenging everyone to be a part of:
The first study is called: Into the Desert: A Lenten Study On Prayer: Our Lord teaches that prayer is a relationship and a vital necessity. This series captures the secret to opening our hearts and minds to Scripture as the means to hear from God and then respond in conversation, basking in his presence and resolving to live in and through his love.
The next offering is: A Lent to Remember, a Lenten encounter with Mercy. This series explores the ways God reaches out to each of us with his mercy. Through Christ’s suffering on the cross in the Paschal Mystery and his perpetual reception of his people in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, God makes his love, his very self, present to us in the world. Finally, as you are aware by now the Church and buildings have no heat due to the boiler for the Church no longer functioning and the aged boiler cannot be repaired; and along with aging HVAC/ cooling system to the Church has been evaluated and will need to be replaced. The first phase of renovation of the Church complex should start immediately after Easter with the plan to put in the new heating / boiler system to the Church and Religious education building along with updating and replacing the HVAC/Cooling system with a new system to the Church and Religious education building. During this time will replace one (1 of 4) of the main HVAC/cooling systems to Guyot Hall. The cost of replacing and repairing the heating and cooling systems for the Church, Religious Education building and Guyot Hall will be approximately $200,000.
