In this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus tells us all a parable that reminds us how fleeting are things of this world and how easy it is to have a false sense of security in ourselves and our possessions. The ultimate security can be found only in God. In this life we need food, shelter and clothing, but we need to remember that we cannot confuse wants with needs, greed with security. The Gospel this Sunday challenges us to evaluate possessions, pursuits and our priorities in this life.
Please continue to pray for Deacon Frank Berntsen, and his wife JoAnn and family. Deacon Frank has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Deacon Frank has been a valuable member of our ministry team for the past three and half years and now is the time to show our love and support for him during this trail.
Deacon Frank has been undergoing chemo and radiation treatments and I am asking for the help of everyone at STHY. We are accepting donations of money, and gift cards for gas and food to help Deacon Frank and his family during this time of need. The donation basket is located in the back of the Church. Thank you for your support.
On behalf of STHY, I would like to say a special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for their generous gift of food, time and hard work for the July 10
th spaghetti fundraiser for Deacon Frank Berntsen and Deacon James Bart, whom both are experiencing major health issues in their lives. I want the K of C to know that their work has not gone unnoticed in our community.
This past weekend, a number of our young people attended the 60 th Annual Archdiocesan Youth Conference at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston. All who are participated were blessed with a powerful message from Cardinal DiNardo and other presenters. I want to send a special thank you to our Youth Ministry Volunteer, Mrs. Debi Tribble, Associate Director of Faith Formation, Mrs. Pamela Johnson, along with a team of adult chaperones who will be provided supervision for our youth.
Church attendance during the summer months tends to drop off as vacations and weekend sporting events often conflict. On the other hand, the services STHY provide with the parish and for the larger community continue year round, as do their associated expenses. Thus, your consistent financial support of our parish is vital to achieving our stewardship mission. The easiest way to be sure that your gift of treasure reaches us, even when you can’t be here, is through enrollment in our electronic offertory program: Faith Direct. Enrollment forms are available in the Church office or you can visit Faith Direct’s secure website at www.faithdirect.net to enroll on line. Our parish code is TX526. As always, know that your generosity is truly a gift from God.
With the beginning of August, the countdown has begun for the 51
st anniversary celebrations for our parish. On Sunday August 20
th , we will celebrate our Parish Feast Day and Following the Mass, a reception with food will be in Guyot Hall. Please take this the next few weeks to invite any of our past parishioners and families who have moved to come and celebrate the life of our STHY.
Next, have you noticed all the new padded chairs in Guyot Hall and the Meeting rooms, well I want to extend a special thank you to Margie Gulledge and her family for donating 500 padded chairs to the parish. Thank you for your families’ generosity.
I send out my sincere thanks to all who made a pledge for our Building Faith, Family and Future Capital Campaign. I truly appreciate your generosity and support. There is still time for you to make your pledge. Envelopes are in the Narthex along with our collection box specifically designed for our Capital campaign or you can do so online through the parish website. When you complete your pledge envelope, drop it in the Capital Campaign collection box in the Narthex, offertory basket, or mail it or bring it by the office at any time. Remember, we ask every family to consider an equal sacrifice, not an equal size gift. We can all do our part, and every pledge, of every size, is most needed and welcomed. Thank you for doing your part to help us reach our goal.
