Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Once again, thank you for all your prayers and support as we work to rebuild the community of St. Hyacinth.
We continue to have a lot of work to do.
The contractors are still on the Church complex grounds and are continuing to assess the damage to the Church complex buildings as well as continuing to remove debris from the complex. This work will be ongoing.
In my past updates, I told you all that the religious Education building was destroyed, the parish offices were damaged and can no longer be occupied. Guyot hall sustained damage. Several HVAC units were destroyed along with damage to the roof and water damage to the interior of the hall. The rectory sustained damage to the roof and interior. The Church suffered moderate damage. There were several windows that were destroyed and damaged. There were several areas on the Church's roof that were damaged, and several places in the Church's walls were damaged too.
The Church complex has been powered by a generator, and now that the power poles on Center Street have ben fixed, we should have our power switched from the generators today.
We currently do not have any Church systems in place. As I told everyone at the Mass on Sunday, our parish offices were destroyed, and we do not have phone, computer, internet, or other systems to run an office. We are working with the Archdiocese to implement a plan of action for a temporary office.
In the meantime, please be patient as we move to get back online with the parish systems.
All parish activities have been postponed for the week.
In the meantime as well, I ask everyone to please continue to support St. Hyacinth. The Tornado has gone away, but the tornado did not stop the bills.
I am asking everyone to please continue to pray for St. Hyacinth and the people of Deer Park as we move to recovery.
God Bless,
Fr. Reginald Samuels
