Today concludes the Paschal feast that began fifty days ago on Easter Sunday. In the gospel, Jesus gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit by breathing on the disciples. The gift of the Holy Spirit enables us to know that the gifts that God gives us are unique to us and we are called to use those gifts for the Glory of God. S. Paul reminds us that all gifts come from God. Instead of comparing our abilities and talents to those around us, let us focus on how we can use our gifts for the good of all.
For this Sunday’s Mass we will sing the Pentecost sequence before the Gospel reading. Along with the Easter Sunday sequence, these sequences remain the only two mandatory parts of the liturgy that introduces the Gospel in the Catholic Church. The text of the sequence is an invitation for the Holy Spirit to enter our lives with practical manifestations of divine power and love.
Next, I want to thank everyone who has wished me well for the celebration of 15 years of Priesthood. My anniversary date is May 30th, however due to logistical issues, we will have a small celebration on Sunday June 9th. More details to follow. It has been a remarkable journey. Just remember, I have spent 12 of the 15 years of my priesthood as Pastor of St. Hyacinth.
Next, mark your calendar for August 18, 2024, for the celebration of the 59th anniversary of our parish. Planning has already begun for the celebration of our parish with food, fun and prizes. We will have further details as the weeks go by on how we can make the celebrations of our parish a wonderful event for the church and community. One of our parish goals in 2024 is to increase the number of families supporting St Hyacinth using electronic giving. Currently we have 180 families using electronic giving and hopefully by the end of the year we can have at least 325 families of STHY on Faith Direct. The number of 325 families represents 20% of our parish population of registered parishioners. You can register in less than five minutes by logging sthaycinth.org and going to the online giving page on the website. However, I do want to address the approximately the over 1000 registered families here at STHY that we have no record of your giving to the Church. We do acknowledge that many are giving to the Church through the weekend collection; however, STHY needs you start moving toward electronic giving.
Finally, please pray for the priest of our archdiocese, we will be having our Convocation of Priests in Galveston this week. All the priest of the archdiocese will be in prayer and workshops during our time together as a priesthood.
