In this week’s Gospel reading, we are brought to the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. This event is often referred to is the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus. In the Gospel of John, it states: “Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.” Jesus reveals two aspects of his nature, first, we see that Jesus is fully human and secondly, Jesus reveals that he is truly divine. Human in the sense that he is attending a wedding feast, and Divine by the fact that he performs signs that disclose his divine nature and the nature of the kingdom of God.
Effective January 2nd Cardinal DiNardo has called all Catholics back to Mass. The dispensation to attend mass has been removed for all Catholics within the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston. The faithful should fulfill their Sunday and Holy Day obligations joyfully and conscientiously. For more information go to our parish website at https://sthyacinth.org/covid-19-updates-for-our-parish and read the latest letter rom Cardinal DiNardo.
One of our goals for 2022 is to increase the number of people using our electronic formats for the dissemination of information from our parish. We have our website: Sthyaicnth.org , which I along with the team, update almost daily with information about the activities that go on in the parish. There is Flocknotes, which is our information delivery service for the parish, in which we email and or text information about the activities of the parish. Go to Flocknote tab on our website and join the group “Parishioners”. We are on Facebook, go and ‘like’ our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/StHyacinthchurch . Next, I want to challenge everyone to take time out of their busy schedule and go to the Prayer Garden and Stations of the Cross on the property of Church next to the police station. The rehabilitated area looks beautiful. Every year, the Confirmation class presents a live station of the Cross, and this year will be special. I would like to thank Will Dever, Beth Dever, Howard Scheffer, Mary Scheffer, Jim Holdon, Steven Rodriguez, Raul Turner, Paul Arrigo, Don Zuchkaro, Allan Konvicka, the members of the Catholic Daughters, the members of the ACTS Community and the men of the Knights of Columbus who have been assisting in the rehabilitation of the STHY prayer Garden and Stations of the Cross. Thank you for all your help.
Finally, the renovation of the main sanctuary has been spectacular. The Church looks beautiful. To cap off the renovation of the Church, there are a few items that are due the in February and March. The new items include new water fonts, Stations of the Cross and two new Sanctuary lamps for the Altar and these items should arrive before the start of lent. All the items for the Church are import items from the manufacturer so keep your fingers crosse that they will be here in time for the celebration of the Lenten season.
