March 8, 2022Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Lent is a special time of the Church year in which we all deny self so that we may be better to give ourselves to others. Yet, our Lenten practices must go beyond self-denial to renewing our relationship with God. We are called to reflect on this season how we can be better, do better and increase our faith.
In this Sunday’s Gospel we witness the glory of Jesus in the transfiguration and how this transformation foreshadows the glory to be given to all who remain faithful to him. We are pleasing to Jesus when we live as he did. We experience Jesus’ Presence in the goodness and kindness of others, in the community gathered for liturgy and prayer and is transformed by that love in which we share.
The glory of the transfiguration brings us all closer in our relationship with Jesus. Through the transformation that we witness in the Eucharist, we grow in our own understanding of what Jesus means and his role in our lives. Jesus comes to demonstrate his power and he gives us the power to transform our lives for the better.

For 2022, Cardinal DiNardo has assessed our parish DSF goal at $84,000. DSF supports more than 60 ministries and programs that serve the faithful of the Archdiocese and us here at St. Hyacinth. Thank you in your generosity in supporting DSF 2022.
With the season of lent, we welcome our Friday Fish Fry sponsored by our Knights of Columbus. Those of you who have attended in the past know that this dinner is not to be missed. Every Friday during Lent, from 5-7:30 p.m., the K of Cs will be serving a delicious fish dinner in the Parish Hall. The K of Cs serve a lot of dinners a night, and the line moves quickly so come early and bring your family and friends. You can also get your meal to go if you’d like. Be sure and thank the Knights for their hard work on the dinners. It’s a great testament to stewardship in action, so thank you brother Knights!
Also following the Lent Fish dinners, every Friday we will have Stations of the Cross in the church beginning at 7:00 p.m. Due to supply chain issues and shipping, the new Stations has not arrived, however, we have placed up the old stations on the walls of the Church and when these will be replaced once the new stations come in. I hope many of you will want to spend 30-45 minutes on Friday nights with this popular Lenten devotion. It’s a great way to spend a Friday evening and come for dinner and stay for Stations.
STHY will have our annual Lenten Penance Service on Tuesday March 22nd at 7:00 pm in the Religious Education Building Classrooms. We will have multiple priest confessors available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation that night. I encourage you to come and experience this most powerful and healing sacrament. Especially if you haven’t been to confession in a long time, now would be an ideal time to come and be reconciled to God and the Church. It would be a great way to end the Lenten Season and get yourself in the right frame of mind for Easter.
Finally, there are several maintenance projects that will be starting in the next few weeks. First, we will be refreshing the parish grounds with new plants and shrubs. The hard freeze damaged the plants beyond their ability to recover and we will be replacing the shrubs and plants throughout the parish grounds. Next, we are working with a contractor to repair of the walkways to the Church. Hopefully we will have these projects completed by Easter. Thank you for your generosity in contributing to parish maintenance.
