In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus commands us to love. The kind of Loving that Jesus commands of us is not easy. Loving demands that we comfort others, live in truth, and see to the needs of the people around us. Just to tell someone that you love them is not enough. Love is action as well. We are called to love as Jesus loves. We are called to sacrifice. In our loving, believing and living, we are called to action, and this means carrying out Jesus commands thorough out our lives.
There has been a phenomenon that has been happening at Mass lately that has been very concerning to a number of parishioners and to me as Pastor as well. There have been a number of people who are showing up late to Mass and are setting themselves during the Mass readings. As pastor, I am asking that if you are late to mass, please wait until the Mass readings are over to be seated. It is very distracting for the readers, congregation and ministry leaders, when someone is seating themselves during the Mass readings. I want to reiterate, We all understand that there are many reasons for being late to Mass and I am happy that you are coming to Church; however, If you find yourselves being late for Mass, please wait to be seated until after the Mass readings for the mass are completed. We will give you all time to be seated immediately after the Mass readings. Thanks for your cooperation.
As we move forward to the month of May and June, STHY has several major events on the calendar. The music department will be having their annual rummage sale Saturday June 3rd from 8 am to 6:30 p.m. in Guyot Hall. Please drop off your donations during business hours and come out and support the music ministry at STHY. On Thursday June 22nd at 7:00 pm we will have our Mass of Confirmation with Bishop George Sheltz. St. Hyacinth has 45 young people being confirmed this year. We congratulate all of our teens, their sponsors and families and pray that the Holy Spirit will always guide them.
As we gear up for the summer, I want to make you all aware of the 2017 Annual Archdiocesan Youth Conference which takes place this year on July 28-30th at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston under the theme “Holiness” The primary focus for A.Y.C. is to rejuvenate the faith life of our youth, to help them get serious about life in Christ and His Church, and to learn the truth of the Gospel. All who participate will be blessed with powerful witness and messages from major presenters including our own Cardinal DiNardo. The A.Y.C. 2016 was a major success with a record number 2500 young people participating in the event from throughout our Archdiocese. For A.Y.C. 2017, we are hoping to send a number of our young people to this event so that we can help them grow in their faith.
Registration for A.Y.C. 2017 is currently underway. If you would like to sponsor a young person for this event, contact our Faith Formation. For our young people who are eligible to attend the conference, registration for A.Y.C. 2017 ends soon. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish. Thanks to all those who have made their pledges for the capital campaign. Thank you for your generosity and sacrifice. As your pastor I am also a fellow parishioner, and I needed to make a sacrificial pledge for the capital campaign myself and I am asking you to prayerfully consider doing the same according to your means. We will be making our pledges throughout the year and they will last for a three year period. This is a wonderful parish and faith community and I assure you that I am very fortunate to be your Pastor. I know that you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success. We entrust this campaign to the intercession of Our Blessed Mother and our patron St Hyacinth. Thanking you in advance for your response in faith. As your pastor, I invite you to discern how best you are able to support the new sanctuary.. to build Family, Faith and Future….our Sanctuary …. Our home.
