Church Tradition lets us know that the third Sunday of Advent is “Gaudete,” “Rejoice,” Sunday, named after the entrance antiphon in the Roman Missal. At the midpoint of our season, the liturgy overflows with rejoicing. This season is meant to show the joy of our faith in Christ the Light. The season of Advent encourages us to make time in our preparations to joyfully greet Jesus in the Christmas season.
The readings for this Sunday are filled with images of rejoicing. The Prophet Zephaniah tells us to shout for joy because the Lord is near. St. Paul insists that we rejoice that the Lord is near. On this day, we are all call to rejoice that our Lord is near and is coming once again into our lives.
STHY will have our annual Advent Penance Service on Tuesday December 21st at 7:00 pm in the Religious Education building Classrooms. We will have multiple priest confessors available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation that night. I encourage you to come and experience this most powerful and healing sacrament.
Now that the Holiday season is in full swing and there are several opportunities for our parish community to witness the love of Christ to those in need this season. The SVDP Food collection box is also located in the narthex of the Church for food donation for the holiday season. Thank you for your generosity.
The next opportunity for you to give is to the parish itself. The 2021 STHY gift list is out and this presents a great opportunity to support our parish in a special way to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. Check out the list in the bulletin or Sthaycinth.org and see how you can share the gift of Christmas with STHY.
