This weekend, please welcome Fr. Jerry Morgan who will be with us to celebrate all the Masses and tell us about the work of Unbound ministries, a lay Catholic sponsorship ministry that helps children and elderly in 18 developing countries around the world. Please give Fr. Morgan a good STHY welcome. To learn more about Unbound Ministries, visit Unbound online at www.unbound.org.
As we move back into ordinary time, Jesus continues to call us to follow him in our readings. Jesus gives us three examples of what it means to be a disciple. First would be disciple is told that discipleship means a life of following, without even a place to rest one’s head. The second has unfinished business, the burying of the dead; yet life of discipleship still comes first. And the third wants to say goodbye, but here too, a life of disciple ship comes first. These images are stark and direct. To be a disciple of Christ means sacrifice and total commitment.
Summer is here and that means Vacation Bible School. Registration has begun for this yearly event which will be held July 8-12 in Guyot Hall. This year’s theme will be “Roar: Life is Wild - God is good.” This VBS event is a wonderful time for our young people to explore their relationship with Christ and the Church. Last year VBS had over 170 kids participating along with over 50 teen and adult volunteers helping our young people grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish.
Church attendance during the summer months tends to drop off as vacations and weekend sporting events often conflict. On the other hand, the services STHY provide with the parish and for the larger community continue year round, as do their associated expenses. Thus, your consistent financial support of our parish is vital to achieving our stewardship mission. The easiest way to be sure that your gift of treasure reaches us, even when you can’t be here, is through enrollment in our electronic offertory program: Faith Direct. Enrollment forms are available in the Church office or you can visit Faith Direct’s secure website at www.faithdirect.net to enroll on line. Our parish code is TX526. As always, know that your generosity is truly a gift from God.
