As the Apostles in Gospel message today seek an increase in their faith; we all have the opportunity to increase our faith by acting as the Christians that God has created us to be. Faith is acting decisively as God would do. Now that our stewardship month has come to an end, I want to challenge everyone here at STHY to become involved with this Church. It is important that we keep our ministries vital to serve our community and Church.
October is Respect Life Month and this Sunday is Respect for Life Sunday, and there will be a ‘Prayer Chain’ to witness against the horrors of abortion. Come join us this Fall for an exciting new parish bible study on Luke: The Gospel of Mercy. Of all the Gospels, only Luke is known as “The Gospel of Mercy”; and it is Luke that the Church draws from in a special way during this Jubilee Year. Come discover St. Luke’s unique insights into the heart of God. The selected study is studied within the context of the whole Word of God, Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium. Each lesson includes study commentaries written by leading Scripture Scholars and authors; references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Papal encyclicals, Writings of the Early Church Fathers and the Saints. For your convenience, there will be morning (10:00 am- 12 Noon) and evening classes (6:30 pm- 8:30pm) beginning on Tuesday October 4. The two groups meet once a week in the Meeting Room 1. Registration fee is $25.00 to cover the cost of materials.
Our Archdiocese has challenged all the Churches to opens its doors to the missionary aspect of our Church every year. Fr. Bob Kelly SVD of the Divine Word Missionaries will be with us on October 8 & 9 to celebrate Mass and speak about their missionary work around the world. The Divine Word Missionaries, they are an international Religious Community of missionary Priests and Brothers who serve in 70 countries helping provide the most basic of life’s necessities like drinkable water, food and shelter. They help build chapels, celebrate the sacraments and spread the Word in the most remote mission communities. Over 6,000 active missionaries travel to the far corners of the world where they build hospitals to care for the sick, educate the poor, teach the hungry to farm and house the homeless; they also work to help those neglected and forgotten building a better future while growing vibrant Catholic communities of service and faith around the world. Fr. Bob has served in the Philippines and the State of Mississippi here in the United States. He also served at Divine Word College Seminary in Epworth, Iowa for eight years and he currently works in the Divine Word Mission Office in Techny, Illinois. This Mission Appeal is part of our Mission Co-op Program to assist Missions around the world.
