What is RCIA?
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is process that prepares adults to be received into the Catholic Church. The adult may either be baptized in another faith or un-baptized. This process also includes adults that were baptized Catholic as infants, but have had no formal formation in their faith.
How Long is the process?
Everyone's faith journey is different, so the time period will vary somewhat with each individual. At St. Hyacinth, we initiate at the Easter Vigil
When can I begin?
The program is a year round program. Individudals who wish to explore the Catholic faith can start at any time during the year.
Will a prior marriage keep me from joining the church?
This very complicated question is best answered in person. Your prior bond may have an effect on, if and when you would be able to join the Church. Please contact to discuss the situation in detail.
Will I need a sponsor for my initiation?
You will need a sponsor that meets the requirements of Canon Law "A fully initiated (Baptized, Conformed and received 1st Communion) practicing Catholic that is not boundy by a canonical penalty". One sponsor that meets the requiremetns will journey with you through this process. A spouse or parent cannot be a sponsor, but any other family member that meets the requirements may be a sponsor. The RCIA team will also assist in finding you a sponsor from the St. Hyacinth community.
